Triumphs and Takedowns: The Essence of Victory in Combat Sports, UFC Debate, and Fight for Hygiene w/Mikey

Triumphs and Takedowns: The Essence of Victory in Combat Sports, UFC Debate, and Fight for Hygiene w/Mikey

Ever wonder how a personal milestone can echo triumphs in the arena of combat sports? This week, we're not just breaking down the technical knockouts and submission holds; we're unpacking the very essence of victory, be it a black belt promotion or an eye-opening gold medal performance at ADCC. Our discussion spirals from the stories that inspire us to the contentious world of UFC, where even a head clash and eye injury can't dampen the spirit of fighters like Sean Strickland.

Hold onto your gloves as we wade into the MMA community's hot takes on recent bouts, and how fan engagement can both uplift and challenge an athlete. From Sean Strickland's vison-compromising injury to UFC commentator John Anik's confrontation with online backlash, we pull no punches in exploring the raw and real interactions that define the sport. And just when you thought the stakes couldn't get higher, we tackle the UFC middleweight title shot debate, pitching the idea of a tournament to crown the worthy champion, all the while navigating the murky waters of social media influence on the sport we love.

To cap off, we get down and dirty with the not-so-glamorous side of grappling – gym hygiene. Mikey Musumeci's passionate plea for cleanliness strikes a chord as we recall our own run-ins with less-than-fresh training partners. This episode isn't just about who's punching who; it's about the culture, the cleanliness, and the sheer unpredictability of combat sports. From UFC 298 predictions to signing news and grappling with smelly gis, join us for a roundhouse kick of insights and stories that'll leave you ready for the next bell.

Speaker 1:

NEY Field, relax and smiley. Oh, just Next dance. He just shook up the world. How's that feel? Hey, I'm not surprised. F***, f***.

Speaker 3:

Hey, thank you for tuning in to this week's episode of Chingossos Convert Crew, your one-stop shop for all your combat news. It's the last week of January 2024. And, dang, we got no UFC these weekend. But you know, we got you. We got all the combat news for the week. You got. I got my brimo right here, cuz how you doing this afternoon, my brother.

Speaker 4:

I'm doing good, man, Doing good, Waiting for tomorrow's game, you know, celebrating some friends' promotion to Blackbell. We got a buddy who won gold at ADCC in Long Beach. So yeah, man, just celebrating having a good weekend. Man, how about you? Oh yeah.

Speaker 3:

Oh, it's fantastic, fantastic, even though there's no UFC, there's boxing, there's bare knuckle, there's jiu-jitsu and tons of UFC newscast. So let's just go ahead and jump right into this week's episode. I want to start this week off, this episode off, with something that we usually don't. I mean, we're always wishing people a fantastic week and hoping everything's going well, but I sent you a video earlier today and I want to share this with all the listeners and all the viewers out there, cuz hey, you never know if you're on the right track or if you feel like you're not doing enough? Check this guy. I found this clip on Instagram. This is a guy named Frank Dick and I guess he used to be like a track coach or something.

Speaker 2:

She's nine years of age and she wants to go to run 100 meters. When I worked with her for a few weeks, she goes to her first race. She lines up with another seven kids On your mark, set right, runs down the track, hurls herself at the line Eighth out of eight, in 18 seconds, comes back. Oh, mr Dick, how was last? No, you weren't last. Yes, it was. You were 18 seconds. What do you mean? Well, you've smashed the 20-second barrier and I had you down for 19 seconds. You're a whole second faster than that. Do you know what this means? No, this means it's your lifetime best performance, your own personal world record. Really, yes, in some way you're a first. What do you mean? First athlete, I've never coached her on 18 seconds for 100 meters. Now listen in a few weeks' time she's got another race. What does she think winning is now? If she does 17.9, she'll grab a flag and she'll run round the track, because that's what winning is. Winning is being better today than you were yesterday, every day, and if she keeps on working at that, in a few weeks' time.

Speaker 3:

That's the message, man Just be better every day, doesn't matter. If it's getting gold, getting silver, hey, if you're getting that gold and silver, that's freaking fantastic. But even if you're not, whatever you're doing, just make sure you're doing it a little bit better than you did the day before, and that's it, man. That's all that really matters in the end. I remember me and you, because I had a conversation a while ago where we said it's going to be up to us to make this place better. And if you're doing your best every day and you're surrounding yourself with other people that are doing their best every day, guess what, man? That shit's contagious and everyone's just going to start lifting each other up. So surround yourself with winners, man. That's like a Victor Cervantes, like a cousin at right here, a Fonzo, a freaking five professor, like Eddie. Hey, get yourselves a squad like that. Man Just wanted to share that with y'all. Let's get into some real combat news now, because you ready, let's do it. All right, let's do this. You know how I like to share fan made video, and I'm also a fan of the office, uh huh. And so when these two worlds collided, I was like yo, I got to share this with everybody. Check this out.

Speaker 5:

Interaction this week with Henry. So who do and um our domain sterling and what did you make of that? I don't see that.

Speaker 3:

I like this look that figgy gives in a little bit coming up.

Speaker 2:

You're good to go now, say what you want.

Speaker 1:

To bend the knee at what time? Cause I think you absolutely suck.

Speaker 3:

That little side, I think he's this cherry on top that was great Gris eight. All right Cause we didn't have UFC this week, but that doesn't mean we don't have UFC controversy still. So I posted this clip to our Instagram story because I think I got it wrong. I got it wrong. Check out my clip. Definitely me. Last Saturday night, drake and Sean Drake and Sean Strickland double team to ruin my Sunday, my Saturday night, man. So let's break this down, cause I got the significant strikes on the screen right now. And last night or last night Week, I had Sean winning rounds one, two and five. I thought for sure he won those rounds. I thought round two was super close. But now looking at the stats, dude, he got outstruck, even though it says only by four significant strikes. But didn't he also get taken down, did he? Yeah, he did. He did hit it and take down. So the take down, along with those few strikes, that counts as winning round two to me, dude. And if I had him reading rounds one, two and five and he didn't really win round two. Then that means DDP easily run round two, round three and round four for sure. So that's the winner, bro. I think they got it right. They got it right. I'm going to have to go back and rewatch the fight because I still haven't rewatched it, but just the. Even though they were really, really close in strikes, I feel like the take downs, even though they didn't do too much damage, he didn't have a lot of control time, he still got them and Sean still had to stop doing what he was doing to defend the take down, to defend the strikes on the ground, and get himself back up off the mat. So he did edge them out. I think they need to run this back, man. What do you think?

Speaker 4:

Oh, definitely, yeah, definitely. I think they need to run this back. I mean it was close, I think the fact that Sean Shirkland had so many strikes, so many significant strikes, strikes throughout the fight, kind of matched with the take downs that DDP was doing. So, yeah, I mean, when you look at it, I think I remember seeing, like when you are saying that you won round two. I remember I think I remember saying that I was worried that the take downs were going to cost him.

Speaker 3:

Yes, you did.

Speaker 1:

That may have been the deciding factor.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, so and I know, you know, I don't think that the take down should have because, like you mentioned, he took him down but he didn't really do anything with it. So but again, yeah, you said he took him down, he had to stop what he was doing. So I think, yeah, definitely writing this back again, it would be a good one, definitely this one before before Adesanya.

Speaker 3:

Definitely, and it might have been more of like a visual thing, you know. I mean like the judges see you get taken down. They're thinking that's bad for sure, obviously, and the blood that cut definitely Probably played into the judges decisions as well. So, let's see what we have here. I think I have a video. Oh yeah, check out this. So we didn't see this during the fight. I didn't see this clip until afterwards, but check it out. So this is Sean Strickling. I think this is round four. The leg attempt, hurry. And this is so. If you notice, that clip starts and I think Sean had like a small cut already underneath his Left eye. Yeah, here it seems like they clashed heads and that just gushed open. So check it out.

Speaker 6:

Check it out. You can be seen here coming after the single leg attempt. They're a D clearly started bleeding near his eye immediately. Was this a difference maker? What do you think?

Speaker 3:

And there it is. Look yeah so soon as they break away right after that little I mean it was incidental, but yeah, it will happen and it ended up having a big impact on the fight because even Sean I saw a clip of Sean talking in the bat in the locker room after the fight. He said he couldn't see during round four, couldn't see at all yeah, and. Yeah, he kept wiping it, yeah, so, ah, that sucks, man, but hey, it's part of the game, part of the game. Yeah, run it back. Yes, exactly, and so I mean it is what it is. But look who looked like they were more in a fight. Yeah, yep, yeah, pretty crazy, sean did not look. Sean definitely look, definitely look like he got into a fight because he was cut up. But DDP was like he got beat up from the feed up.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, he looks bad. He looked like he got beat with a bat.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, definitely looking like. Uh, what was that guy's name from the Goonies.

Speaker 4:

Chunk, no, not chunk, not chunk. Sloth, Sloth there you go. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, all right. So once the decision came out dude, this is like. Everybody Got on Twitter and just started. All kinds of fighters started chiming in, starting with none other than our boy, ian the cook, gary.

Speaker 4:

I'm sorry.

Speaker 3:

Don't sue me, bro, I'm sorry, yeah, I'm sorry. So Ian Gary comes out with like bro, that fight was disgusting, that fight was sloppy, I would never have a fight like that. And DDP says Word up, bro, don't even worry about it. You will never have a fight like that, so you don't gotta worry about it. And then, of course, you know Sean Strickland had to say something about it because, yeah, he said that they look like a bunch of amateurs. And Then Sean Strickland says FUE, and you cook, saying my boxing is sloppy. I would sleep you if we fought. Then I would sleep with your sloppy while you watch Sean Strickland won. Go back to your corners, all right. So check this clip out. I don't know if you saw this, but Annick John Annick from the UF, one of the UFC commentators had DDP winning the fight. He was on his podcast and he came out with this statement talking about the aftermath and All the fans online coming after him for picking the winner.

Speaker 5:

So check this out because even if you and I both thought Drake is due, plus he won the fight, we try to present that information respectfully. And when I go on to X or I go to our YouTube comments, it seems like a lot of these fans are just in attack mode and I don't know if these fans are casual fans or not, right, but I appreciate the passion. But I'm getting to a point at 45 years of age where I don't know how much time I have left in this MMA space, because if I go do pro football like, I'm not necessarily going to be dealing with this lowest common denominator all the time. And I don't know, man, I just feel like there's a lot of malice and disrespect from the fan base and we can disagree. Like, don't take it from me, demetrius Johnson and Kenny Florian thought DDP won the fight. I don't know. I've just been very off put with the negativity that has permeated my feed since Saturday night and I'm just not sure how much longer I have in this space.

Speaker 3:

Honestly, yeah, listen, man, I that's too bad man, so he's. He's basically saying like he's getting pushed out by all the haters and dude. I mean, why does he even read the comments?

Speaker 4:

I mean, you know, Go for it, cuz at the same time, like this isn't something new. You know people writing responses and doing all that stuff. So he never had any critic. So my question is is this the first time someone had started criticizing you and you just can't take it? Or have you? Has this been going on for a while? Because I think for a long time that has just been the thing. Everyone's talked about it how people get so brave and they say whatever, why you even landed by the. You're getting paid millions of dollars. You're at the freaking fight. It's your opinion. You know, just keep doing your thing. And you know, fuck everyone else. You know exactly your thing, cuz you're never gonna make everyone happy you could go the other way and you're gonna piss somebody off, but I mean, I think it is what it is. But you know I, you know this day and age, everyone has an opinion. Everyone says it like just keep rocking, keep doing your thing, don't even let it bother, you.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think you nailed it, cuz, I mean, everybody has opinions, just like buttholes, but you don't go around showing that to everybody. So I wish some people would just keep their comments to themselves. But you know the MMA base man, you know how they're just spewing hate all the time. I agree with you. I love Annick on the commentary. I love him on the podcast. I listen to him every week. He has since come out with the statement and he apologized to the fans that were talking shit to him, saying I'm sorry for what I said. I hope I didn't offend you, blah, blah, blah. I went on and I commented and I was just like basically saying like dude, don't apologize because you don't owe anybody anything. You're awesome at what you do. Just keep doing it, keep pushing forward, cuz you're getting. He's gotten better. And I mean when he first came I'm not gonna lie, dude when he first got announced as part of the commentary team, I was pissed, cuz I'm old school, I love gold, I love this, I love that. You know what I mean. I love that old nostalgia, I love the sound, I love the old voice. But hey, he has grown on me and he he's a valued member of that commentary team and he says a lot of awesome In. He has a lot of insight. I wish he would stay away from fighters, families Talking about child support issues and things like that, but hey, everyone says things that they regret later on, and that was just one of them. But nine times out of ten he is a gem on the screen. So just keep doing your thing, annick, right, yeah, I agree under percent. Hell, yeah, all right, let's get back to talking about fighters, talking about somebody who wants a shot at the title. Who might that be? Come comes that? My. So right now, I got on the screen. I found this on on reddit, of course, and Every time there's a big fight in the UFC, as soon as the winner is announced, comptouts calling them out. Cuz, every time. Check it out when strictly in one Congratulations, see you soon. Stylebender wins. Congratulations, see you soon. Alex Pareda wins. Don't be afraid, boy, I promise I'll make it fast. See you soon. How about this? Leon Edwards Congratulations at Leon Edwards. See you soon, boy. How about this? See you soon. Pennington, raquel Pennington, I nobody's safe. Now that one was fake. Someone in the comments put that one on. I like dude, that's hilarious. I gotta share that with the boys. All right, I got comms out. So let's just talk about comms out, because he is an exciting fighter. People love talking about him, people love seeing him. But is he really all that? Does he deserve a title shot at 185? I say no. I got his resume, his UFC resume, on the screen right now. His last fight was against Kamara Usman. It finally was at 185. But Kamara Usman isn't a true middleweight. So, yeah, he was 185 at the time because he was, you know, out of fighting camp, only had 10 days to prepare. So, okay, that's a hell of a victory. If we're talking at the welterweight division, then we go below that. Kevin Holland, that was at a catch weight of 180 pounds, so it really wasn't middleweight. And again he's fighting a welterweight at his above his regular weight. You go below that. He had an awesome scrap against Durino, who is a welterweight and a former lightweight At mind you. Okay, so those three victories, those last, those are his last three wins and I would say those are his three most impressive wins. But again, they are against fighters that are smaller than him and they're not true middleweight. Most of all, those guys are just welterweights. So I say no, I don't think he deserves a title shot Right now, at this moment, and what I think the UFC should do is hold like a little, a little middleweight tournament. What do you think about these four contenders I got on the screen? Let's do match With DDP and shun, because it was so close, I mean. I love the easy and DDP. That's a story that they that needs to play out. So if you do it, I'm not gonna be. I will be too mad. So it just flip these cards. If they're gonna go ahead and do easy and DDP, then let's do shun and komzak. I think that's a good thing. Winners fight each other. If you're not gonna give Sean the immediate rematch, then A, let him go through Kamzat, and I don't think Kamzat can get shot. Strickland dude, what do you think?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I like what you have up on the board, seeing Kamzat with Adesanya.

Speaker 3:

Kyle Bender yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 4:

Also allows us to see where he's at mentally and in his game. So let's just see where it gives him a challenge, because he's obviously no joke, he's not an easy pushover. And then, yeah, I wanna see this rematch, because it was so close. I wanna see this rematch. I wanna see Sean Strickland get back in there and see if it was just a fluke. Was it just that? Yeah, it was too close to not see it run back again.

Speaker 3:

Definitely right, definitely. And I like what you said because I think it would answer a lot of questions, a lot of questions about I mean, if DDP beats Sean, he's the undisputed middleweight champ. Right, he backed it up and did it again. And if Izzy wins A, his head is back in the right spot and now we get the fight that we always wanted to see, a. If Kamzat beats Izzy, then bro, then he's real deal and now he's officially beat a number one contender, and now he has a right to battle for the crown, battle for the strap, right. I agree, yeah, I think that's the turn that we deserve. What do you guys think out there? Or you think?

Speaker 4:

Or what do you think? Dark horse, what's up? No, the alternate, have him fight triple cheese, oh.

Speaker 3:

Oh, hey, stack up then cheeseburgers. He can't middleweight. Hey, he doesn't like fighting middle, regular middleweights anyways, he likes to fight puffy. Yeah, let's do it. Henry Sohootl, go on the hard, go to hard attack grill, right Cause? There you go. Don't cut the nance tension, all right, cause last week we talked a little bit about this. I think the girl's name on the screen, rachel Gilmore yes, she tried to get the UFC to count. She tried to get TikTok to cancel UFC 297. And then on the screen we have Alex K Lee, who got roasted by Sean Strickland, and I just want to say that I posted the clip of us talking about this from last week's show on Instagram and it got a few hundred views, no problems. I posted the same clip on TikTok and TikTok took it down. Oh yeah, cause they said I was bullying. They said we were being bullies. My God, Even though in the post, even though in the post I said hey, you know what. You do your thing, we'll do our thing. I agree to disagree, but you stay in your space and we'll stay in our space. If you don't like what's going on over here, turn it off, Don't watch. Just like us, we don't know what the heck is going on in their world. No, nor do I care. I don't even go to MMA fighting anymore.

Speaker 4:

You know, but whatever, man.

Speaker 3:

And so we weren't actually the only ones who had that point of view. I was listening to Josh Thompson and John McCarthy on their podcast Big John McCarthy, and they and Josh Thompson had the exact same take, dude, the exact same take that we had. He said that that dude, alex K Lee, was just doing this for clicks. He knew exactly what kind of response he was going to get out of Sean Strickland and he was just waiting for it, man. So instead of asking bogus questions during fight week to a fighter that's cutting weight, hey, just do what we want. Just do what you're there for and ask about MMA. Man, come on, you're not going to ask him first financial advice. You're not going to ask him diet advice. You're asking him about fighting. That's what he knows about.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah. Who's he from again? He's from the writer.

Speaker 3:

Right there on the screen MMA Fighting. That's a website MMAFightingcom.

Speaker 4:

Yes, I want to make sure that's correct. So you work for MMA Fighting, and that's the question that you ask. Come on. That's like working for Sports Illustrated and then going and asking for stock advice. What no? But your magazine has nothing to do with that. Readers have nothing to do with it?

Speaker 3:

Or if you want to talk about that subject, how about go find someone who's an expert in that field and go ask them that question?

Speaker 1:

Right, not this guy.

Speaker 3:

Not this guy. You already know what you're going to get. Whatever, all right, because USC 297, coleman event Myra Buena Silva, rocky Pennington. I think you and Fonz will both pick Rocky and I pick Myra. And were you impressed by this fight, or what?

Speaker 4:

Actually I was impressed by Pennington, just the fact that this girl, she just seemed like they hyped her up. They hyped her up and I was starting to think, ooh, ok, maybe this might be bad, but for Pennington to stop her and put her. There's a couple of times where you could see where she was getting taken down or she was kind of playing into her game and when she would bring it back and start laying hands she was winning this. So I was impressed by her as a fighter and how she's where she's come to now. But overall the fight overall. Now I wasn't really impressed in the fight especially with that.

Speaker 1:

I think you had the other fighter.

Speaker 3:

Myra, yeah, I think it had its moments, but overall it was a pretty boring fight and I was wishing for sure that it was three rounds instead of five rounds. And I knew, dude, I knew that Juliana Pena was going to get on Soon. As she got a microphone in front of her, I knew she was just going to start diarrhea of the mouth and all kinds of shit talking was going to come out of her mouth. So, apparently, rocky is now going to face Juliana, and this fight has been brewing since they were both on Ultimate Fighter Back when Ronda Rousey was the coach. So again, I know we talked about this in the past, but I'm going to bring it up again. Dude, she's got zero wins against active UFC fighters. Yes, she does have a win against the man in Unions who is not in the UFC. Yeah, go back before that. Sarah McMahon, not in the UFC. Nico Montaño, not in the UFC yeah, yeah. So when are you going to fight somebody that's in the UFC? No, I mean, it's going to happen and I don't know if it's going to be an entertaining fight or not, but I know that there's going to be a lot of shit talking. There will definitely be, definitely. And then she even dragged the man in Unions into this. Did you know that Amanda Nunez did an interview with Megan O'Levy and Megan Astor if she was going to come back, and she didn't say she was going to come back? She was like I don't know, maybe I'm thinking about it, you know, you never know, and that's what she said. She left it at that. She didn't say oh yeah, I'm coming back or no, I'm not coming back. She just said I don't know, I'm interested, I'm thinking about it, and that was it. And then just rips her dude Like why would you even say anything about that? Who cares? She needs clicks, she needs clicks. I think so. I think so. She's hyping it up. She's doing a pretty good job. So I think this was on the screen right now. I got a clip from the Mavsvar Evilov and Arnold Allen fight, and check this out. We talked a little bit about this last week. We talked about Mavsvar's wrestling. Check out this. This is Mavsvar in round one and he's trying to take Arnold Allen's back and Arnold Allen does his damn hardest to get Mavsvar off his back. There's the take down and look at that. He just scoops over, takes the back. Arnold Allen tries to shuck him off, gamby rolls Mavsvar's like nope. Single leg, bro, single leg.

Speaker 4:

Double leg.

Speaker 3:

Right back on Gamby rolls coming up. Nope, bro, I'm gonna leg ride and I'm right here. Oh, dude, this is just Beautiful grabbing. Look at another game rule he's still right there. Yeah, this is Textbook, dude, use this in no ghee and you will have no problems. Just don't do the punches. Don't do the punches. But I wanted to share this with everybody. Man, I think he does like three or four. Here comes another game you roll yeah, right ups back down to the mat and Not out. Yeah, no, no more. That was a nasty little choke right there. But look at how he reverses and gets out. Yeah, he does, like a gear roll.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I feel like he did like a couple of gammy rolls and within at some point.

Speaker 3:

Yes, he did. Yeah, he did. So. Now that Maasar got that W under his belt, he's now in the top five of the featherweight division, right at number five. So right above him, brian Ortega, ilya, yair and Max and Everybody above him has a fight cuz. So Max Hallways moving up to to lightweight to take on gaugy at UFC 300, yair Rodriguez is set to fight Brian Ortega and I think that's gonna be on that. Mexico UFC fight night card.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, yeah then.

Speaker 3:

Ilya is fighting Volk, so there's really no one for him to fight in the top five. He's gonna have to fight somebody just underneath him.

Speaker 4:

So I don't know, I don't know who they would put, you know, but it's gonna be if someone doesn't end up making their fight, they might just throw him in there.

Speaker 3:

There you go. He could be an alternate. Yeah, I wonder you know. So I check out this clip. Dude sticking with the Gambi rolls, check out these little kids in wrestling class. Let's see if we can. I can get the clip to play, but these kids are doing the same. Look it. Look at this. Yeah it's such a cool drill, bro yeah.

Speaker 1:

Notice how it's a progression. The switch legs not there, the back doors not there. He takes the Petersen, the switch a bit the back door and there the Pearson, a guy who wants to put quad pod for the role. Hip-hop, turn in, quad pod roll. Perhaps he follows your role.

Speaker 3:

Sick. So we're watching on the screen Nova Wrestling club and they're just going over drills, basically like what Arnold Allen was doing, just trying to get somebody off your back. So usually when, when, when you're trying to take someone's back and someone Gambi rolls, there's one of, you got like one of three options, usually right, cuz you're either gonna roll with them you're gonna lose the position or You're gonna allow them to roll and you're gonna do like what Marsvar did and you're just gonna float right above them and as soon as they finish their role, you may not have the back, but you haven't lost the position now. You're just gonna be hopefully mounted on top.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And I remember the first time somebody yeah, he rolled on me and I try to roll with them and I didn't tuck my head and I went so don't do that, don't do that. If you're gonna roll with it, tuck your head and roll on your shoulder. I learned that real quick. Yeah, yeah, those kids right.

Speaker 4:

Olympians right there.

Speaker 3:

Oh, those kids are studs. I loved, I loved it, so I just wanted to go ahead and all right, cuz, moving on. Moving on on the screen right now I got a couple of tweets from our buddy, tom tiny Tom Aspinall, who's itching for a fight and he's not getting one. He is not getting one at all. On screen right now he's saying. It says while we're talking about steep a, my manager was contacted by the UFC asking if I'd like to fight him on April 13th of course I accepted Cuz. Check out the timestamp on that. You see that on screen January 23rd 2024, 1249 pm. Uh-huh, one minute later, tiny Tom Aspinall tweets again. A little later we will told that steep a doesn't want to fight me and only interested in fighting at Johnny bones. Fucking travesty, bro, travesty, I get it. I wouldn't want to fight a young up and coming. Have you hungry champ either? Dude, right, nobody wants anything to do with that kid. John Jones don't want it. Steep a don't want it. Let John and steep they fight, but you can't let John keep the strap. He's not gonna fight the interim champ. Yeah, I'm ridiculous. Right, name a name, a time when the interim champ didn't fight the Current champ once he came back from injury. Like the interim champ is just for the mientras, it's for the meantime, until the champ comes back, and when the champ comes back, then he should fight the temporary champ, duh. But guess what? We're not gonna get that shit. You know what we are gonna get, though. Next month you have C2 98 cuz. I got UFC 298 main card on the screen. Take a peek. It was supposed to be number 13, anthony Hernandez taking on it, crom Alaskair off, but it Crom got injured and we do have a replacement for that fight. We'll announce that in just a little bit. Dude, I can't believe that Marabh and Henry is only gonna be three rounds. Yeah, it should be fine.

Speaker 4:

It should fucking be fine, that's all it is. They're just giving us a taste. Crazy that's crazy.

Speaker 3:

The middle of the pay-per-view should be pretty cool. Do I really hope that both of these fighters finally make it into the cage, because this was gonna be a good fight when they Originally announced it way back last year. Jeff Neil taking on Ian Gary, number eight versus number ten a. There's beef that needs to be settled. Yeah nobody forgot about you, bro. Nobody forgot all the drama you did. So you're gonna get roasted, bro. Get ready. Whole main event. Supposed to be Robert Whitaker and Paulo Costa, but I don't know if they've signed at all. They haven't announced that it's official. It's still on there. They haven't announced that it's canceled. I don't know, I don't know. And then, obviously, main event Alex Volkanoski taking on Ilya to pour you. The closer we get, the more excited I am. I'm getting for that. So, speaking of the co-main event or board of China, paulo Costa, check this out. Somebody asked him on Twitter, went to the next fight and he said February 17th. You, maybe he's gonna show up. I don't know, I don't know. So, shit, open for the best world.

Speaker 4:

Hope he shows up, cuz it maybe just looked it up. He is like, yeah, there's a fight this day.

Speaker 3:

Maybe he. Yes so here on the screen we're talking about the labor placement. So Alex Hernandez was supposed to fright a Kram Ella scare off Fortunately sounded. They're saying he had a really bad staff infection, so hopefully he recovers and he's able to come back. But in the meantime, what are my favorite up-and-coming fighters? Is gonna step in Roman copy, lov cuz the Russian bro. Mm-hmm. This is gonna be good and this is gonna be a great Opportunity for Roman, cuz he's for sure gonna beat the brakes off of this guy and when he does now he's in, he's gonna get ranked, so he's gonna in his way Into the top five. So I can't wait, man, I can't wait. Alright, cuz Me. We're gonna have to wait a little bit longer for this. Talk about one Championship 165 show and it's gonna be the pay-per-view main event super lick versus to Kairu main event, cuz I saw a face-off. Those two dudes are to kill each other. Oh yes, I cannot wait for that. Oh, so it looks like we got. We're gonna have a handful of really good fights on this card. We're gonna have to wait until so when everyone's watching and listening this Episode, that's when this show is gonna be live. Oh, so. So this is gonna be airing in Japan Sunday night, and For us that's like midnight West Coast time.

Speaker 1:

Monday more.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so, whoa, hopefully we'll pull up. Yeah, we're gonna have to wait a little bit longer. We'll have results and clips for y'all next week, so stay tuned. Stay tuned, all right, cuz we did have IB JJ F's first G Event of 2024. It's a staple. This is when this tournament starts. It's officially G season, it's the euros 2024, and this year they held them in Paris, france. I didn't have enough time to find any clips yet, but there were some freaking awesome, awesome matches. Not all the heavy hitters competed, but if there was an awesome person competing, it was definitely a heavy hitter. A match you might want to go back and watch Mika Galval taking on Andy Marisaki in the finals. I believe it was in the middleweight Division. Such a good match. Such a good match. Yeah, probably get drug tested and he's gonna pass it, probably because he did get gold. And and yeah, I just spoiled that for you. I didn't want to give you the spoiler, but I did, damn it, sorry guys. But if you get a chance, go look up. Mika posted his match against Andy on his personal YouTube page. Check it out.

Speaker 2:

Dude.

Speaker 3:

I thought he was gonna pull it out. He was winning 2-0, got a sweep, he was going. I don't know how, I didn't see the time. I mean, it must have been like around six or seven minutes into the match. He was so close to winning, pulling off the upset. And what happened, did you see I?

Speaker 4:

Thought I saw the right one. I saw the clip where he got into the arm bar. Yes, he got his arm. Yes, yeah, I didn't get the whole it was just the clip of him getting on getting that position and then getting that arm bar.

Speaker 3:

He was working it, he was trying, he just led his guard down for like a half a second so he had like a with his right hand. He had a grip of Mika's pant, far pant leak and his left arm. He I don't mean, I don't know, he just brain fart because he posted it on Mika's chest somewhere. But he fully extended his arm, yeah, and dude Mika's, just like in the matrix, bro, like he was doing. He had like both feet on Andy's hips and he felt Andy put that arm on his chest and as soon as he did that he released his grips and just was like oh, and then rolled him over and he was done, just like that. I post a clip. I have a clip there on next week's show. But damn it, go out and watch it, man. Such a good matchup, such a good matchup.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, all right, cuz they're still adding bites to UFC 300. And what do you think about this one? Yeah, dana just announced this one early earlier in the week Diego Lopez taking on. I think this is guys number 13, right or number 12. I'm sorry, sadiq, you Seth Dude, he's good, he's good and I mean he's good, but we were talking about that. I don't know, I don't think you were on the episode with us, but me and Fonzo were looking at the bottom 15, like 15 through 14. I'm sorry, 15 through 10. I'm sorry, 15th ranked through 11th ranked featherweights, and we thought that Diego could beat all of them if not all of them four out of the five, and Sadiq was one of the ones that we thought he could win. So this is gonna be killer dude. I'm so excited to see this. I'm wondering what kind of what are we gonna see? Is he gonna get a TKO, is he gonna get a submission, or are we gonna see a three round war, cuz that number 12 ranking is on the table and I think that Diego's just gonna take it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, he was a definitely good fighter to watch. He's very exciting, very fast. He's not that type that's just gonna sit there and kind of just smother you or just you know, not really do anything. So I'm just gonna know the other guy very well. But Diego Lopez, definitely exciting to watch. I'm looking forward to my first after his last fight.

Speaker 3:

Hell yeah, it's gonna be a great fight, great fight, and so check this out. A double dose, double announcement with this next slide cuz UFC just signed Kayla. Harrison they snagged her away from the PFL and as soon as they signed her dude, this is crazy because usually they don't. They sign people and they don't announce a fight right away, but they sign her and announce a fight in the same day. So they throw, they're throwing her on UFC 300 and she's gonna face UFC veteran Holly home. Dude, holly could pull the upset off here. That would be nice, very nice dude Kayla's not even wasn't even the champion the PFL anymore Like she's a super good fighter. Don't get me wrong, she's a killer.

Speaker 4:

Champion right.

Speaker 3:

Three-time PFL champ but she did not win the strap the last two years in the PFL.

Speaker 4:

Right, but wasn't she also like a judo champion or something? Yes, it's a two.

Speaker 3:

She's the only two-time gold medalist oh yeah further for the US. Yeah, male and female, so that's saying something right there. So this is an awesome signing. I can't wait to see what other fights they announce for her down the line. But hey, this is a good room right here. I'm for it. I'm looking forward to it. You know, what I'm not looking forward to is this guy again, dan Hooker Dude. What the heck is wrong with him. This is a bend the Hala of all. Bend the Hala's. I Check this out this. He posted this. I don't know if I think this was on a podcast, but check out this quote. He says I'll fight Benio in June. He's come out and said he wants to see if he still got it. Well, I can check, brother, I'll check for you. Yeah, who could? You will get rocked and to outer space man, how do you think he would do against Benio?

Speaker 4:

Dude, he's gonna get friggin eating up alive, I Think that.

Speaker 3:

That is a great matchup for Benio, coming off of that crazy KO loss Dude. This is perfect for him. This is like on Jurassic Park when they drop the goat into the T-Rex cage. Hey, bro, drop him in. Drop in Dan Hooker into that cage with my boy, benio, and we will see what's up you are stupid, dan Hooker.

Speaker 4:

You know, trying to become relevant, trying to get you know, and I start somewhere.

Speaker 3:

But yeah, now he's stirring the pie. He's doing what he's got to do, but at the same time, like I Don't know if you should be stirring shit up like that bro, your body's cashing, your body's writing checks, your wait, how does that? What's that saying? You're writing checks, your body can't afford to cash, bro, I don't think that's how it went, but it's close enough I will take it, we'll take it. Let's just move on before people figure it out. All right, we talked about Mikey Musimet you. A couple weeks ago. He had that little thing with that youtuber dude. Looks like nothing's gonna come of it, but, mike, he's got some a bigger bone to pick cuz, and I'm actually with him on this one. So he went on a little rant on a hygiene. So let's check this out. I'm gonna play a little. I'm gonna play it.

Speaker 6:

So today I'm going to talk about hygiene. One of the biggest issues in jiu jitsu is people getting staff. Now, obviously, jiu jitsu is not for the germ-phobic people. There's plenty of germs and it's a contact physical sport. But what I'm referring to are those people that don't shower after training, those people that reuse their same clothes they don't clean their clothes, they hang them up and then they reuse them again for training and those gyms that don't clean their mats. It's disgusting and it's unacceptable. When I was 12 years old, I almost had that in my arm amputated because of MRSA. I was in the hospital for one month. I'm constantly stuck on antibiotics like Bactrum and Doxycycline. It's so unhealthy to be on these antibiotics, guys. It's damaging people's stomachs, right. So you can't just shower. You can't just go to a laundry mat and get your clothes cleaned Like. You can't just clean the mats at the gym that you have Like. This is ridiculous. It's almost like being dirty is like cool, it makes you tougher, but then being dirty makes you sick and then you get everyone sick around you.

Speaker 3:

So you're going to train with Mikey, you better wash your gear, yeah, wash your ass before and after. So I saw this cousin. I thought, hey, this would be a cool conversation to have with you, because you've trained all over. You've trained all over the United States and you've trained all over the world as well. So when you were in Korea, what did you notice about hygiene over there? Was that even an issue, or was it like they were hardcore on it?

Speaker 4:

You know what? In Korea they were just they were pretty much the same as they were here in the US. In a sense that the gyms make sure to clean, their geese were always clean. I never really had a problem or had an issue with anybody wearing like a geese that they used earlier, even if they trained earlier. So, yeah, it was very clean in Asia, especially with Jiu-Jitsu and stuff like that. The mats were always cleaned up afterwards. It always smelled good, so they always had a lot of good fresh air going through. Windows were open. So, yeah, I never really had any issues with that. Now here in the US, I have been to a few gyms where, yeah, I have trained with people that their geese were we just started and their geese are already soaked and we literally just started. So I know this isn't from the warm up, but I know this isn't from rolling, because we haven't even done that yet and you're already stinkin' smell. Yeah, you need to bring another geese.

Speaker 3:

And those instances were those just like strictly Jiu-Jitsu gyms, or were those like the Combo MMA Jiu-Jitsu gyms?

Speaker 4:

Those are. Let's say, most of them were strictly Jiu-Jitsu gyms.

Speaker 1:

Ah, okay.

Speaker 4:

They may have had like no-gi, they may have had like wrestling and stuff like that, but I could be wrong. I've been to quite a few and it's been a few years. But yeah, there were some that were not as clean and I remember having one rolling with someone and I couldn't roll with them again because their geese just smelled like cat urine.

Speaker 1:

Cat urine.

Speaker 4:

Yes, I have it.

Speaker 3:

The earlier in my Jiu-Jitsu career, when I was, like at an MMA gym which will remain unnamed everyone, if you've been following us for a while, you know the name of the gym, but we won't say it. But when it was an MMA Jiu-Jitsu gym, yeah, there were some stink ass dudes and because I would go even as far as like when we would pair it, like we would start rolling, we shake hands and as soon as we clenched up if they like, I cannot count. I mean, it wasn't a bunch of times, but it was enough times for me to remember. I just started dry, heaving, like at least five times. I'm not even like with five different people where we would start rolling and I would just be like bro, uh-uh, we're not doing this. Yeah, it just cost me a role. I'm going to go sit out now and now I don't have a partner and there's no way we're going to go through with this role. But it was always at that combo MMA Jiu-Jitsu MMA Jiu-Jitsu gym. Now that I'm at a strictly Jiu-Jitsu gym, I doesn't even I can't even remember the last time something like that has happened, especially at our new gym now that we got showers, we got locker room, we got multiple bathrooms, so our wall it's legit. You want to come?

Speaker 2:

check it out Rivalry.

Speaker 3:

Jiu-Jitsu Fresno, california. First, in Barstow, you're going to love it Rivalry Jiu-Jitsu, one of the best Jiu-Jitsu gyms in Fresno, california, mikey Musimachi. You are more than welcome to come through and you will appreciate the clean mats, the clean geese and everyone's fresh attitudes. Hell yeah, All right Cause I just wanted to share that with you. All right, we had no UFC this weekend, but next weekend they're back UFC fight night and it's not a super stacked card. There's a couple bangers on it and I just want to share those with you. So actually I think I'm more pumped for the Hinato Moicano Drew Dobra fight than I am for the main event, even though the main event is going to be cool. You know we're going to get some answers or some questions answered. We're going to, and it's middleweight division too, so no one's really going to, I mean, unless there's a mega upset. You know the rankings shouldn't get shaken up too much, but we should see, we should get some questions answered. Hinato Moicano Drew Dobra, even though they're at the bottom of the lightweight rankings, at number 13 and 15, I don't throw this out there very often, but I can almost freaking promise you that that's going to be fight of the night, cause both of those dudes are veterans. Both of those dudes are hungry. They're both older gentlemen, I think. Let me see I got. I think I got their stats on the screen. Yes, check it out. I'm going to say Drew Dobra's 35 and Hinato's 34. You know what that means? They don't have time to waste. They don't have time to lose and start all over. So that means they're going to be clawing at each other because they know that one loss could be a career ender. You're going to. The loss here could mean you're going to be a gatekeeper at this division for the rest of your career. A win here moves you up the rankings and sets you up with another high level run fighter probably right.

Speaker 4:

Especially going in probably into the top 10.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, this one yeah, at the moment, hinato is a small, a slight favorite at minus 142. Drew Dobra plus 120. Hinato coming in with a record of 17 wins, five losses, one no contest. Five foot nine, 72 inch reach. Drew Dobra 27 wins, 12 losses, one no contest. Five foot seven, 70 inch reach advantage. I'm sorry, looking at the screen. I got Hinato's record on the screen dating going all the way back to 2017, where he took an L to Brian Ortega back in UD 214. So he's a veteran, because veteran Last fought in the UFC in November of 2022. So he didn't fight at all in 2023. So he brought Brad Riedel. He subbed him with the rear naked and that was the interview that he gave in the cage, where he just had crazy clicks. He gave an awesome post fight speech and assault himself and I think that helped him propel himself into the rankings. So nothing too impressive on his resume, but he has fought a who's who of fighters. You know what I mean. Look Karim Rafael Fazeez, rda. Jose Aldo Jose Aldo, yeah, have a win over K W Swanson, though, you know, yeah. And then look at Drew Dobar's record last got a W over Ricky Glenn by TKO round one in October of 2023. But before that he got starched by Matt the steamroller for a vola in round one, and he was winning that fight up until, I think, he took a head kick and then he got dropped and then got finished on the ground. But before that he had a three fight winning streak three wins in a row wins over Bobby Green, k O Rafael Alvis and T Rex Terrence McKinney TKO round one. Yeah so, but check this out. His I mean his last loss was Matt for vola, but before that he lost to Brad Riedel in June of 2021. And that just happens to be who Henato beat last and he finished that dude.

Speaker 4:

So yeah, that was in 2021.

Speaker 3:

2021, not that long ago, but since then?

Speaker 4:

Go ahead, but enough time to maybe learn, you know, fix some issues and you know, maybe hopefully you know what I mean.

Speaker 3:

He did take another L since then, but he did go on that three fight winning streak after that loss. So there you're. He answered your our question right there, because he definitely fixed whatever was wrong, because he reeled off three finishes in a row before he got finished again and then he just finished somebody else. So, man, I don't know. What's good in this one man.

Speaker 4:

It's funny when you're looking at his thing, you notice that he loses and then he wins the next three. Then he loses and he wins the next three. You're right, you know, it's almost like a pattern. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

So in your theory he's about to rattle off two more wins in a row. Yeah, so our idea might just round it out our parlay there, because drew Dover, all right. Main event Roman what's that? Put some money on it? Hell yeah, let's stack it with this. Roman, delete C, number eight fighting number 11, naserdeen Emelov. Roman is coming in as a slight underdog, plus 140 and Naserdeen at a minus 166. So there is no reach advantage. Really, delizy's got a one inch reach advantage, I guess, if you want to say that they're both the same height, but Delizy is a lot older, 35 and Naserdeen's 28.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Let's look at their records here. Roman Delizy took an L the last time out, losing to Marvin Vittori by unanimous decision, but before that he was on a one, two, three, four fight winning streak with wins over Jack Hermansen by TKO, phil Haas by KO, kyle Dock is by KO and then Loriano Stara Poli by unanimous decision. Looking at Naserdeen's record, he's got a no contest against Chris Curtis back in June, but before that he took an L versus Sean Strickland. You lost by unanimous decision, but before that he was on his own three fight winning streak with wins over Joaquin Buckley by decision, tko win over Edmund Shabazian and TKO win over Ian Heinish. Should be a good fight, man, but I have no idea who's going to win this one you know who you really want.

Speaker 4:

This dude went five rounds with Sean Strickland and so the current champ, so that should say something for him.

Speaker 3:

Right, he survived. He didn't get finished, and you know who we need to ask about this, though. Who's that Fonzo? You know that Fonzo is five, and oh, on picking fights in the last two pay-per-views.

Speaker 6:

I know.

Speaker 3:

Fucking crazy dude. Maybe he does know what he's talking about. Yeah, we'll see. We'll get him on next week, alright, cause that was the last news story for the week. Anything you want to say before we wrap this up?

Speaker 4:

No, I'm glad we're doing this again. Man Can't wait for what we got going on for 2024.

Speaker 3:
